Engrish in the wild

I snapped this at Dusit Zoo the other day. It's just so adorably Asian:

I intentionally tried to find more Engrish, but couldn't. The zoo does quite well at keeping blatantly bad English off of public signs. And Thailand on the whole is nowhere as bad as some other Asian countries (I'm looking at you, mainland China).

  1. Also from Dusit Zoo (September 2008):
A cute hippo saying "Thank you [khop khun ja'] for not smoking in the zoo" :-)

While we are at it, it would be nice to explain the history behind the popular name for the zoo, "Khao Din" . The Thai Wikipedia article states that on King Chulalongkorn's orders, in 1895 the area was landscaped to form a new park. A canal was dug from Khlong Prem and a lake was created. The excavated soil was then used to make an artificial hill that was planted with trees, and the king named it "เขาดินวนา" (forested earth mound). (วนา is poetic for ป่า, according to Longdo.com)
